It’s 10 p.m., your child feels burning hot, and the clinic near home closed hours ago. The same questions keep looping in your head: “Do we need the ER, or can this wait until morning?” And if you do go, where can you go without sitting in a waiting room all night?

So we have pulled together the children’s hospitals and clinics in Chiang Mai in one place: which are public and which are private, where they are, what they offer and when they are open (only where we found a source to confirm it). We are not ranking hospitals or doctors, though. We are not doctors, so we are in no position to judge the quality of anyone’s medical care.

When should a sick child go to the ER?

Quick Answer: If your child has any one of the serious signs below, go to the nearest ER or call 1669 (Thailand’s emergency medical number) straight away. Don’t waste time looking for a pediatric clinic.

Go to hospital now if…

  • Your baby is under 3 months old and has a temperature of 38°C or higher. Read why in Fever in a baby under 3 months
  • Fast breathing, difficulty breathing, the skin between the ribs sucking in, or blue lips or nails
  • Drowsy, hard to wake, not responding, or having a seizure
  • Not drinking milk or fluids, peeing much less than usual, crying without tears
  • Projectile vomiting or green vomit, or blood in the stool
  • A red or purple spotty rash that does not fade when you press on it
  • An accident, a fall from a height, or swallowing a foreign object or a chemical

If you are not sure, going is better than not going. No ER doctor is going to tell a mom she brought her child in too early.

Where can I take my child late at night in Chiang Mai?

Quick Answer: The ERs at the big hospitals are open 24 hours. Pick the one closest to home, because time matters more than the hospital’s name.

  • Public: Suan Dok (city center) and Nakornping (Mae Rim) both have emergency rooms.
  • Private: Bangkok Hospital Chiang Mai says it has 24-hour pediatric emergency care. Rajavej Chiang Mai has a 24-hour ER.
  • Save the ER number of the hospital closest to your home in your phone today.

It’s not serious, but I want to see a pediatrician in the evening. Where should I go?

Quick Answer: Try Nakornping Hospital’s special after-hours clinic, or a private hospital pediatric center that stays open into the evening.

Where can my child get vaccinated in Chiang Mai?

Quick Answer: Basic vaccines covered by your health coverage are given at your registered service unit and at public hospitals. Optional vaccines are available at private hospitals and children’s clinics.

  • Mother and Child Hospital, Regional Health Promotion Center 1 cares for babies after birth and gives childhood vaccines. A good fit for well-child appointments.
  • Nakornping has a general pediatrics clinic with vaccines as part of its after-hours clinic.
  • Private hospitals such as Bangkok Hospital Chiang Mai, Chiangmai Ram and Sriphat offer basic and optional vaccines. Some keep the vaccine zone separate from sick children.

Bring the pink book (the Thai mother and child health record) every time. For the early vaccine schedule, see Vaccines from birth to 2 months.

Taking your child to hospital for the first time: what to bring

Quick Answer: A parent’s ID card, your child’s birth certificate, the pink book, any drug allergy history, and an insurance card (if you have one).

  • If your child has a fever, note the times and the readings. It makes it much easier to explain to the doctor.
  • If there is vomiting or diarrhea, take a photo so the doctor can see it.
  • Diapers, milk or bottles, a light blanket and a small toy for the wait.
  • If you have just given birth, check whether the hospital where you delivered offers ongoing care for babies. Read more in Maternity hospitals in Chiang Mai.

Check before you go

Quick Answer: Opening hours, doctor schedules and costs can change. Call before you go every time, except in an emergency, when you should just go.

We checked the information on this page on 3 October 2026, using hospital websites and the sources listed below, and we are not paid by any hospital or clinic on this list. There are plenty of other private children’s clinics in Chiang Mai. We have not included them yet because we could not confirm their latest details.

Just knowing where you would take your child if they got sick late at night means you are already halfway prepared.

FAQ

Questions parents ask

  1. 01My child is sick late at night in Chiang Mai. Where can I go?

The emergency rooms at the big hospitals, public and private, are open 24 hours. For example, Bangkok Hospital Chiang Mai says it has 24-hour pediatric emergency care. If symptoms are severe, call 1669.

  2. 02Is there an after-hours children's clinic at a public hospital in Chiang Mai?

Nakornping Hospital runs a special after-hours clinic that includes general pediatrics and vaccines. It is open Monday to Friday 16:30 to 20:30 and Saturday 8:00 to 12:00, closed Sundays and public holidays (information updated July 2026).

  3. 03Where can my child get free vaccines in Chiang Mai?

The basic vaccines on the Ministry of Public Health schedule are given at the service unit you are registered with under your health coverage, such as a sub-district health promoting hospital (รพ.สต.), a community hospital or a public hospital. Optional vaccines usually cost extra. Bring the pink book (the Thai mother and child health record) every time.

  4. 04My baby is under 3 months and has a fever. Should I wait and watch?

Don't wait. If the reading is 38°C or higher, take your baby to hospital right away, even if they are still feeding well, and don't give fever medicine yourself before a doctor has examined them.

  5. 05What should I bring the first time I take my child to a private hospital?

A parent's ID card, your child's birth certificate or a copy, the pink book, any drug allergy history, a list of medicines your child is taking, and your child's health insurance card if you have one.

  6. 06What are the opening hours of the Bangkok Hospital Chiang Mai Pediatric Center?

The hospital's web page says it is open every day from 7:00 to 22:00, cares for children from newborn to 15 years, and has separate well-child and sick-child clinics. Hours can change, so call to check before you go.
