Best kids toothpaste in Thailand 2026: 12 tubes compared, which really have 1,000 ppm fluoride and which are swallowable but don't fight cavities
Which kids toothpaste is best? We compared 12 tubes sold in Thailand, ranking fluoride and fluoride-free tubes separately. We checked ppm, the age on the box, sugar, SLS and price per 10 g, plus how much to squeeze by age.

Kids toothpaste with fluoride

Standing in front of the kids toothpaste shelf and feeling dizzy? Every tube has cartoons and a strawberry flavor. Some say “swallowable” in big letters, some say “Organic”, but the number that matters most is hiding in a tiny corner: how many ppm of fluoride.
We compared 11 kids toothpastes sold in Thailand and split them into two groups: tubes with fluoride, and swallowable tubes without it. We compared what brands, retailers and review articles publish. We haven’t tested them on kids’ teeth ourselves. For every tube we say whether a fact comes from the brand itself or only from retailers and reviews.
Does kids toothpaste need fluoride?
Quick Answer: Yes. Thailand’s Department of Health recommends brushing your child’s teeth twice a day with toothpaste containing 1,000 ppm fluoride or more, from the first tooth. Fluoride is what strengthens enamel against cavities.
Many families worry about swallowing and switch to fluoride-free. Dentists’ answer is to control the amount for your child’s age, not to drop fluoride.
- First tooth to under 3: 1,000 ppm, a smear that wets the bristles or a grain of rice. A parent brushes, then wipes off the foam.
- Ages 3 to 6: 1,000 ppm, the width of a child’s toothbrush or a corn kernel. Let them spit out the foam, with no big rinse, or one small rinse only.
- Age 6 and up: switch to 1,400 to 1,500 ppm, per the Dental Association of Thailand.
If your child is at high risk of cavities, for example chalky white spots on the teeth or falling asleep with a bottle, a dentist may suggest 1,500 ppm before age 6. Leave that call to the dentist.
How we ranked them
Quick Answer: Every tube was scored on the same 6 criteria. “Confirmed 1,000 ppm fluoride” and “age on the box fits young kids” count double, and tubes with and without fluoride are ranked separately.
Each criterion gets 1 to 5, then we average.
- 1,000 ppm fluoride (counts double): full marks if the brand confirms it, fewer if we only saw it at retailers or in reviews, low if sources disagree, 1 for no fluoride.
- Age on the box (counts double): full marks for 6 months or first tooth, fewer for 1 to 2 years, middle marks if not stated.
- No sugar and no SLS (the foaming agent that makes some kids’ mouths sting). If it isn’t stated, we give a middle score rather than guessing.
- Price per 10 g and actually available in Thailand.
None of these brands is connected to our team, and nobody paid to be ranked. Prices last checked 14 October 2026, mostly on Lotus’s website.
Every tube in one table
Quick Answer: On numbers alone, the cheapest per 10 g are Kodomo cream and Kodomo gel. The tube with the most confirmed info and the gentlest formula at a fair price is Mild Kids.

Is swallowable toothpaste really better?
Quick Answer: No. Most swallowable toothpastes have no fluoride, so they don’t prevent cavities. They clean off milk about as well as a plain brush.
“Swallowable” sounds reassuring, because little ones can’t spit yet. But the recommended amount of fluoride toothpaste for under-3s, just a smear that wets the bristles, is already set to be safe if swallowed. That’s why dentists prefer a tiny amount with fluoride over a bigger amount without it.
One more thing we noticed: some shops call fluoride tubes “swallowable” too. Don’t trust that. Fluoride toothpaste shouldn’t be swallowed. Use the right amount for age and slowly teach your child to spit.
What to check on the box
Quick Answer: Three things: the fluoride ppm, the age on the box, and the exact version name, because many brands sell look-alike versions with different fluoride levels.
- The ppm number usually reads Fluoride 1000 ppm, or you’ll see Sodium Fluoride or Sodium Monofluorophosphate in the ingredients. If there’s no number at all, treat it as unknown.
- The age on the box: Colgate Kids Minions strawberry is for 2+, while the Mild Mint version is for 6+. They look almost the same.
- The version name: Kindee sells fluoride-free, 500 ppm and 1,000 ppm tubes. Jordan Kids Step 1 shows up as both 500 and 1,000 ppm depending on the batch. Check the tube in your hand every time.
- “Organic” on a toothpaste tube usually refers to a few extracts in the formula. It doesn’t mean the whole tube is organic, and it says nothing about cavity protection.
How to brush so it actually works
Quick Answer: Technique matters more than the brand. Brush twice a day, with bedtime the most important, a parent brushes or re-brushes, and no milk or snacks after the bedtime brush.
- Bedtime matters most. There’s less saliva during sleep, and milk left on the teeth all night is a major cause of cavities in little kids.
- Parents brush. Little ones can’t handle a brush well yet. Let them have a go, then brush again yourself, until they’re older.
- You squeeze the toothpaste. Don’t let kids do it, and keep tubes out of reach.
- No big rinse. Spit out the foam so the fluoride stays on the teeth longer.
- See a dentist when the first tooth appears or within the first year, then every 3 to 6 months as the dentist advises.
If you see chalky white spots or brown marks on the top front teeth, take your child to a dentist soon. Early decay can still harden again if it’s caught early.
Quick pick
Quick Answer: Under 3, choose a 1,000 ppm tube labelled 6 months+, such as Mild Kids, Kodomo Ultra Shield gel or Kodomo Organic Baby. For ages 3 to 6, any tube in the fluoride group works, just adjust the amount for age.
- Small budget, easy to find: Kodomo Ultra Shield gel
- Gentle formula, mid price: Mild Kids (Babi Mild)
- Very young, dislikes a tingly taste: Kodomo Organic Baby
- 2 and up, loves cartoons: Colgate Kids Minions
Any tube your child will open their mouth for, with 1,000 ppm fluoride and just the right amount squeezed out, and you’re on the right track.

Questions parents ask
01Which kids toothpaste is best?
Start with a tube that has 1,000 ppm fluoride and an age on the box that fits your child. In this ranking Mild Kids (Babi Mild) scored highest, followed by Kodomo Ultra Shield gel, the cheapest and easiest to find. For very young kids who dislike a tingly taste, Kodomo Organic Baby is a good pick but costs more.
02Can toddlers use fluoride toothpaste?
Yes, and they should. Thailand's Department of Health recommends brushing twice a day with 1,000 ppm fluoride toothpaste or higher from the first tooth. The trick is the amount: under 3, just a smear that wets the bristles, or a grain of rice.
03How much toothpaste should I use for my child?
Under 3: a smear that wets the bristles, or a grain of rice. Ages 3 to 6: the width of a child's toothbrush, or a corn kernel (about a pea). A parent should squeeze it out and help brush until your child is older.
04My child swallowed a little fluoride toothpaste. Is that dangerous?
If you used the right amount for their age, swallowing some isn't a worry. The smear or rice-grain amount is set to be safe even if swallowed. What to avoid is squeezing a lot every day or letting kids eat from the tube. Keep tubes out of reach, and if your child ate a lot, call a doctor or the Ramathibodi Poison Center on 1367.
05Is swallowable fluoride-free toothpaste better?
No. Fluoride-free toothpaste helps clean, but it doesn't strengthen the enamel against cavities. Thai dentists recommend fluoride from the first tooth. If you're worried about swallowing, control the amount instead of switching to fluoride-free.
06When should we switch to 1,500 ppm toothpaste?
The Dental Association of Thailand recommends 1,400 to 1,500 ppm from age 6. Before that, use 1,000 ppm, unless a dentist finds your child at high risk of cavities and suggests 1,500 ppm earlier.
