If you already have a Shopee shop, you’ve probably had customers ask, “Are you on Lazada? I have a code to use there.” Then you hesitate, wondering if a second shop would be too much. Some moms want to start on Lazada from the beginning, because they’ve been ordering things for their kids on that app for so long it feels familiar.

On this page we won’t repeat the general shop setup steps (for the big picture of opening your first shop, go to Your first day opening a Shopee shop). Instead we’ll focus on what’s unique about Lazada: signing up, fees, and what to prepare if you’ll sell on two platforms at once.

Where do you sign up to open a Lazada shop?

Quick Answer: Sign up through the Lazada Seller Center app or website, which is a different app from the Lazada app you shop with.

Beginners get confused by this a lot. On Shopee, you start selling from the same app you shop in. But Lazada separates the seller side into Lazada Seller Center, a separate download on your phone, or you can go through the “Sell on Lazada” page on the web.

The upside is that your shop back office is clearly separate from your personal shopping account, so it doesn’t get mixed up with your kid’s diaper orders. The downside is one more app you need to keep notifications on for, or customer chats can easily slip through.

How many steps does it take to sign up?

Quick Answer: Lazada lists 4 steps: enter your phone number, enter your email and address, submit identity documents, and list at least 1 product.

  1. Enter your phone number and get an OTP code. Use a number you’ll keep long term
  2. Enter your email and address. This is where the courier will pick up, or where you’ll take parcels from
  3. Submit identity documents. Take a clear photo of your ID card and link a bank account in the shop owner’s name
  4. List at least 1 product so your shop goes live

After you submit documents, wait for the system to verify them. An article from KTC (2024) says it takes about 3 to 5 business days, but in reality it may be faster or slower depending on the time. While you wait, use the time to photograph your products and write descriptions.

What documents do you need?

Quick Answer: An individual shop needs an ID card, a mobile number, an email and a bank account in the shop owner’s name. A shop in a company’s name needs company documents too.

  • ID card: a clear photo, no glare, no cropped edges
  • Bank book page or bank account details: the account name must match the ID card. If you use your husband’s or your mom’s account instead, it usually causes problems when you get paid
  • Mobile number and email for OTPs and notifications

In some cases the system may ask for more documents. If the screen asks for something not on this list, just follow what Seller Center tells you. But if someone messages you asking for documents outside the system, be careful.

What fees does Lazada charge?

Quick Answer: Mainly a selling fee by product category and a payment fee of about 3.21% (including VAT). Free shipping programs or campaigns are extra service fees you can choose to join.

In 2026 Lazada changed its fees several times. Matichon reported a change effective May 1, 2026, and FlowAccount summarized another change effective August 1, 2026 like this for regular shops (not LazMall):

Product category (examples)Selling fee (incl. VAT)
FashionAbout 17.12%
Health, beauty, home goods, foodAbout 16.05%
Phones, tablets, TVsAbout 6.96%

Plus a payment fee of about 3.21%, calculated on what the customer pays including shipping.

These figures change very quickly. They’ve already been adjusted several times in one year. Before setting your actual prices, always check the latest fee table in Lazada Seller Center, and build the fees into your price. The detailed method is in A pricing formula that really makes a profit.

Good news for new shops: Lazada’s shop opening page lists several perks for new sellers, such as 0% fees for the first 30 days on some items and a free shipping program. But read all the conditions when you sign up, because once the promotion ends, your prices still need to make a profit.

How is Lazada different from Shopee?

Quick Answer: The differences are the separate seller app, parts of the fee structure, and the programs each one offers. But neither charges an opening fee, and both deduct fees when you sell.

But honestly, what matters more than the numbers is where your customers are. Ask your regular customers, or see which platform competitors in your category have more reviews on.

What to watch out for when running two shops at once

Quick Answer: Watch out for overselling stock, prices that aren’t adjusted for each platform’s fees, and chats you can’t answer in time.

  • One stock, two shops. If you have 5 items, don’t set stock to 5 in both shops. Split it or check the numbers every day, or you’ll have to cancel orders and your shop will lose rating points too.
  • Set prices separately based on fees. Category fees aren’t always the same on each platform, so the same price may not give the same profit.
  • Set auto-replies in both shops, saying when you can actually reply, for example after the kids are asleep.
  • Commercial registration and tax don’t need to be done separately for each platform, but you must declare all your sales channels. See details in Do online sellers need commercial registration?

If two shops are already wearing you out, don’t rush to open a third. One well-run shop definitely beats three that answer chats slowly. But if your products suit selling through videos, read Do you need tens of thousands of followers to sell on TikTok Shop? as your next option.

Open one shop at a time and get your back office settled first, so your shop can grow while you still have time for your kids and for yourself.

FAQ

Questions parents ask

  1. 01Does it cost money to open a Lazada shop?

There's no fee to open a shop. But when you sell, Lazada deducts a selling fee by product category and a payment fee from your sales. Add-on programs, such as the free shipping program, are extra service fees that shops choose to join.

  2. 02What documents do I need to open a Lazada shop?

An individual shop needs an ID card, a mobile number, an email and a bank account in the shop owner's name. The system may ask for more documents during identity verification. If you open in a company's name, you need company documents too.

  3. 03Which app do I use to sign up for a Lazada shop?

Use the Lazada Seller Center app or the Seller Center website, which are separate from the Lazada app you use to shop. This is different from Shopee, where you can start selling from the same app you shop in.

  4. 04What are Lazada's fees in 2026?

In 2026 Lazada changed its selling fees several times. A summary after the August 1, 2026 change puts regular shops at about 6.96 to 17.12% including VAT, by category, plus a payment fee of about 3.21% including VAT. Figures can change, so check in Seller Center.

  5. 05Should I open on Lazada or Shopee first?

If you don't have a shop yet, start on whichever platform your target customers use more, get your back-office routine settled, then open on the other. Neither charges an opening fee, so running two shops only costs you the extra time managing stock and chats.

  6. 06Are there promotions for new shops on Lazada?

Lazada's shop opening page lists perks for new sellers, such as 0% fees for the first 30 days on some items and a free shipping program. Conditions can change, so read the details when you sign up.
