The review says “great for kids”, but when you get there, mom has to get up and chase her child every five minutes and the coffee goes cold before she has had a single sip. Raise your hand if that has happened to you.

So we picked this list with one question: “Does mom actually get to sit down?” Put simply, that means the play area is within sight, it is safe enough for kids to play on their own, the toilets genuinely work for kids, and there is good coffee for mom too.

Want a cafe close to home? Choose by area

Quick Answer: Chiang Mai is big, and driving across town in the evening with little kids is no fun. We have split the kids cafes by district, so just pick the area closest to home.

  • Kids cafes in Mueang district (Nimman, Suthep, Canal Road)
  • Kids cafes in Mae Hia
  • Kids cafes in Hang Dong
  • Kids cafes in San Pa Tong
  • Kids cafes in San Sai
  • Kids cafes in Mae Rim
  • Kids cafes in San Kamphaeng
  • Kids cafes in Saraphi

How to choose a kids cafe in Chiang Mai without wearing yourself out

Quick Answer: Look at 4 things: your child’s age, the weather that day, the distance, and the toilets.

  • Your child’s age. For very little ones, a smaller place with a soft play zone works better. Older kids like big spaces with sand, water and trampolines.
  • Weather. On very hot or rainy days, pick somewhere with an air-conditioned room or an indoor zone.
  • Distance. The Canal Road and Pa Daet areas are easy to reach from town. Hang Dong and Doi Saket suit a half-day trip.
  • Toilets. If your child is still in diapers, a changing station is a real lifesaver.

What to keep in the car every time

Quick Answer: A change of clothes, a towel, a bag for wet things, socks and a hat.

Most kids cafes in Chiang Mai are outdoors, with sand here and water there, and the kids come back messy every time. Keeping a change of clothes in the car is the easiest way to stay relaxed. Indoor soft play zones usually ask for socks, and if your child is old enough for sunscreen, put it on before you leave home.
